Statement from Delegate Scott on Marijuana Decriminalization Legislation:
I joined my colleagues in the House of Delegates and voted in favor of legislation that would decriminalize marijuana. As an attorney, I see first-hand how marijuana convictions disproportionately punish African-Americans and people of color. This bill would replace criminal convictions with civil fines. While I remain in favor of legalization, I understand the Commonwealth is not yet positioned to legalize. This bill will allow us to formerly study this important issue and create legislation that will affect meaningful change for Virginians.
